Crystal Dynamics answer user-submitted Tomb Raider questions

Lara Croft Monday, February 02, 2009 2:03 PM

The second part and final part of our Crystal Dynamics interview concentrates on your questions; from sequels, to Lara's middle name.

Last year we asked you to provide your very own questions to be sent to Crystal Dynamics, the developer that made Tomb Raider: Underworld.

Crystal Dynamics is one of the most dearly loved game developers, first amassing fans with the Legacy of Kain series and then for bringing Lara Croft into the 21st Century with the PlayStation 2 entry, Tomb Raider: Legend.

Of course, there were so many that they couldn't answer them all and they're a secretive bunch, so they weren't as revealing as in the official Gamezine interview. But their answers are interesting nonetheless. Enjoy.

Cfive (Va): Why does Lara Croft tend to kill rare and exotic species?

Crystal Dynamics: We want to encounter the more interesting animals out there and it's no coincidence that the animals humans find most interesting are the ones that are becoming endangered! But we provided a tranquilizer gun in Underworld for those who want to get where they are going in a more Eco-friendly way.

Shanice Moore (UK): What's Lara's Middle Name?

CD: That would be telling. Lara is a very private person and keeps such details to herself

Caleb Groves, (US): What is in store for the next Tomb Raider adventure?

CD: Only time will tell!

Janice (Paris): Will Kurtis return in the next game? Please say yes! He's got his own fansite.

CD: Again, we can't really say what's in store next because we are still deciding that ourselves!

Arthur (Melbourne, Australia): Are you going to make a PSP version of the newest game, Underworld?

CD: Sadly there are no plans to make a PSP version.

Jacob R (Oxford): Are there any plans for an Angel of Darkness remake?

CD: I can't talk about the future in any way, yet, but I can say that when we decided to make Anniversary, it was intended to be for an anniversary event for the fans and not part of a long-term strategy of remaking games.

Jesse (US): Are you going through with multiplayer in the next game? I really hope you do.

CD: Multiplayer is always considered for each game, difficult as it is, and I imagine it always will be, but it's too soon to say anything about the next game.

Gordon (Alberta, Canada): Will you be bringing out the Tomb Raider anime (on GameTap) on DVD or Xbox Live movie marketplace? Will you ever make an anime or manga series for Lara?

CD: I have heard various ideas thrown about, but nothing definitive yet.

Lucy (America): Underworld sold most on PS3, does that make you consider releasing the DLC on all consoles?

CD: Microsoft actually approached us and asked for us to make some exclusive content that expands the game experience for their gamers.

Michael Lock (London): Will Amanda and Lara ever reconcile their differences?

CD: Only time will tell!

Vincent (Italy): What are the Wheels of Kathar that Natla mentions in Anniversary? What about Tihocan?

CD: Natla says many of things related to her knowledge of her own past and the future she hopes for, much of which we simple humans may simply never understand!
