Avalanche Studios, the team behind Just Cause, has announced a publishing deal with SEGA that will see it release a download-only game for download PC, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade.
Spoken about in gaming circles for some time the game, known as Renegade Ops has been built using the Just Cause 2 engine but will differ in that it will be a top-down view, much like classic arcade titles.
The release is reported by Eurogamer to be a twin-stick "vehicle shooter" and will support a two-player, multiplayer with split-screen, and online multiplayer mode for up to four gamers.
Avalanche has dubbed the title a "competitive co-op" which pairs players on missions while still ranking them on highest score.
Speaking to Eurogamer, senior producer Andreas Thorsén said: "A lot of inspiration came from looking at Shadow Complex and what they did to the Super Metroid mechanics. We wanted to do something similar, using old school mechanics created with the looks of today."
An autumn release date has been pencilled in but not yet confirmed.
