Bayonetta pushed into 2010 release

Bayonetta box-art Tuesday, July 21, 2009 10:02 AM

SEGA and PlatinumGames have delayed the release of Bayonetta into 2010.

It's a shame to bring such sad news, but PlatinumGames' excellent climax action game will not be coming out this autumn as previously planned.

The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 game will instead release in Europe and the US in January 2010.

Despite Bayonetta previously being announced to release simultaneously worldwide, Japan will still get the game on October 29th 2009.

The delay has been prompted by SEGA's concern over releasing the game during such a crowded season in the Western video games market.

"Bayonetta is an extremely important new IP for SEGA and adds a new level of depth to our growing portfolio," said Sega West president and COO Mike Hayes in a statement.

"As a result of market analysis, we have taken a publishing decision that January 2010 is the optimum release time in the Western markets to maximize this exciting new title's potential."

Though the delay is a shame, it's certainly good news to hear that SEGA is taking the game seriously. We recently interviewed Bayonetta's director Hideki Kamiya, also known for birthing Devil May Cry, which you can find right here.
