Sony targeting 'hardcore gamers' with its new handheld

7031040 Tuesday, February 01, 2011 4:51 PM

The successor to Sony's PSP console is set to target hardcore gamers, it has been claimed.

As well as this, the device has been described as a technologically advanced machine despite Sony's decision to not utilise 3D visuals, according to a representative from Gamespot.

GameSpot UK editor Guy Cocker said: "At this point in time it looks like this machine is going to appeal to people who play games on PlayStation 3 (PS3), and people who want to be on the cutting edge technologically."

Mr Cocker also noted that 2011 should be the year of handhelds, with Nintendo also set to release its 3DS device.

These comments follow Sony's announcement that the PSP's successor will be available at some point during this year.

The console has been tentatively titled the NGP (next generation portable entertainment system), though its official title is expected to be disclosed in the upcoming months.
