Gamestation creates videogame nativity

In what has to be one of the most random marketing stunts in recent memory (excluding David Hasselhoff's Burnout CRASH! campaign, of course), gamestation has recreated the traditional Christmas nativity scene…with video game characters.
No, we're not sure what to make of it either. To mark the run up to the big day the games retailer polled over 30,000 customers to determine which of their virtual icons they'd like to see standing in for the Holy Family and other nativity figures.
So, we have a gormless looking Sackboy from Little Big Planet taking centre stage as baby Jesus, presided over as Mary and Joseph by the unlikely pairing of Princess Zelda and everyone's favourite pro-aggression grunt Marcus Fenix of Gears of War fame.
Solid Snake, Mario and a flasher-alike Obi Wan Kenobi fill in for the three wise men.
And, perhaps most disconcerting of all, a deformed Yoshi and Sonic are billed as the "animals and the donkey of nativities past". Just to add that extra sprinkle of creepiness, Sonic appears to be doing a Playboy pose. Well, it is Christmas.
"The gamestation nativity scene celebrates Christmas in a way that is relevant to the gaming generation," claimed Neil Ashurst, Head of UK PR at gamestation, and here at Gamezine we couldn't agree more.
