Gamers want it 'right here, right now'

PC version of Alan Wake beats expectations Wednesday, February 22, 2012 3:59 PM

Computer game players are not ready for weekly episodic gaming experiences, according to a leading developer.

Oskari Hakkinen, the head of franchise development at Remedy Entertainment - the company behind the characters Max Payne and Alan Wake - told Digital Spy that gamers are too impatient.

"I just don't think that we're there yet as an industry, that you know, gamers are ready to consume video games on a weekly basis," he said.

"They want it all right here, right now."

'Alan Wake' for the PC was released last week (February 16th) via the digital distribution service Steam and made back its development costs within 48 hours.

Remedy has been delighted with the response to the release, which has been some time in the making.

Aki Jarvilehto, executive vice president of Remedy, described it as an "emotional experience".

Nordic Games will be publishing a retail PC version from March 2nd in the UK.
