Following the release of the Black Ops 2 teaser, the team behind the game has been adding further fuel to the flames of hype surrounding the release by branding it as the "best Call of Duty ever" and one which "pushes the boundaries".
Yesterday's trailer gave us a glimpse into the Black Ops 2 world - an explosion-heavy carnage-fest featuring robotic fighting machines, hover jets and stealth planes - and a release date of November 13th 2012, which will surely give gamers a cerebral overload as it vies for their attention with Halo 4.
Halo 4 is the start of a brand new saga in the series and will chart Master Chief's return to confront his own destiny and square up to an ancient evil in bid to save the universe.
Despite Halo's return, Eric Hirshberg, chief executive officer of Activision Publishing, is convinced that Black Ops 2 will be the one to blow gamers away.
"Hands down, this is the most ambitious Call of Duty ever," he said.
"We're pushing the boundaries technologically, graphically and from a narrative and gameplay perspective. Treyarch's vision … will redefine the Call of Duty franchise for the future - both literally and figuratively."
Mark Lamia, studio head at the game's developers Treyarch, is equally confident about Black Ops 2's ability to impress.
"The team is crafting an experience that Call of Duty fans have never seen before.
"We are challenging assumptions on every front, with the single player campaign, zombies and multiplayer. With Black Ops 2, we're all in and we won't rest until we've launched nothing less than the best Call of Duty we've ever made."
With the original Call of Duty: Black Ops setting the record for the biggest entertainment launch in history in 2010 - generating first day sales of $360 million in the US and UK from 5.6 million copies - November could quite simply be a monumental month for gaming.
