Sniper Elite V2 takes down number one spot

Sniper Elite V2 from Rebellion and 505 Games has taken down the number one spot on the GFK all-format games chart.
Flying in the face of today's trend for all-action explosion fests, Sniper Elite V2, as the name suggests, is a much stealthier affair which rewards carefully considered gameplay.
However, that is not to say there aren't some visceral visuals when you have worked yourself into the perfect position to take the shot, with the X-Ray Kill Cam providing a gory insight into what happens when a bullet penetrates the skin.
Skill is also highly rewarded, with players having to take gravity, wind speed and aim stability into account in order to execute a bonus-winning head shot.
All this stealth action takes place in authentic World War II-era Berlin locations and features weapons such as the Springfield M1903, the Gewehr 43 and the Mosin-Nagant 1891/30.
The emergence of Sniper Elite V2 has pushed Prototype 2 from Radical Entertainment and Activision Blizzard into second place.
Ever-present Fifa 12 holds firm in third place, but Fifa Street is down two places to 4th.
Mass Effect 3 also slips, down a place to fifth, but Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 is on the rise again and sits sixth.
Terminal Reality/Lucasarts/Microsoft's Kinect Star Wars falls for the second week running to seventh, but Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games refuses to go anywhere; hauling itself back up a place to eighth.
Battlefield 3 is down a place to ninth but still gives EA five titles in the top ten ahead of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 which rises four places - no doubt riding the wave created by last week's Black Ops announcement.
Fans were treated to a sneak preview of the new Black Ops 2 game, as well as a release date of November 13th 2012.
