Warsaw-based developer CD Projekt RED has announced the first details of its next RPG, the enticingly titled Cyberpunk.
Establishing a world that's a million miles away from that of the Witcher series, the new game promises to be a "mature" role playing adventure with a non-linear story.
The "triple-A" title will be based on Mike Pondsmith's pen-and-paper RPG Cyberpunk 2020, which incorporates aspects of works by authors such as William Gibson (Burning Chrome, Neuromancer), who first coined the phrase "cyberspace".
Pondsmith will work on the adaptation with the Polish developer and said: "For over two decades, I've been proud to say that Cyberpunk's been the gold standard of what it means to be a true cyberpunk game.
"But over all that time, we haven't found the right team to bring our cyberpunk world to full digital life – until now."
Praising CD Project Red's previous work, he added: "Trust me – this game is going to rock."
The news follows earlier announcements made at CDP Red's Summer Conference including a native version of The Witcher 2 Enhanced for Mac and a Japanese release date for the popular title in August.
