The forthcoming Worms Revolution game from Team17 is going to include a host of new features such as "dynamic water" and "a huge amount of smoke", as the studio looks to take advantage of a ground-up development process.
Giving his thoughts as part of the second edition of the Team17 'developer diary' series, Ian Lindsey, the game's lead programmer, said that the new Worms will enjoy a lot of advancements from previous incarnations of the classic title, which first emerged in 1995.
"In this iteration of the game we have 3D landscapes with the same level of detail as the 2D landscapes that we had previously," Lindsey explained.
He is also promising "huge amounts" of smoke filling the screen, as the team will be uprating the particle effects system, as well as physics objects with extra special properties.
"You can have a lighter that explodes, test tubes which expel poison and also water bottles that can blow up and produce water," the programmer said.
Worms Revolution will also feature a brand new dynamic water element, which includes "viscosity, compression and … turbulence".
The game is scheduled for a Q3 release for both PC and consoles.
