Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes has set a 2012 record after securing its fifth consecutive week at number one on GFK Chart-Track's all-format game list.
Last week it drew level with EA's Fifa 12, but the Traveller's Tales / Warner Bros. Interactive title is now clear on its own following another week of impressive sales.
With the Olympics just a week away, London 2012: The Official Video Game grew its sales by five per cent to hold steady in second, just ahead of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier which enjoyed a discounting-fuelled 40 per cent surge.
This saw The Amazing Spider-Man lose its grip on third place, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 moving into fifth behind.
The new entry making an impression on the top ten this time around was Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, with the second biggest 3DS launch week behind only Resident Evil: Revelations.
Behind it, the release of the Dark Knight Rises movie inspired Batman: Arkham City to climb four places to 7th, on the back of a 37 per cent increase in sales.
Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games was another Sega title benefitting from athletics fever, up two places to eighth, while Max Payne 3 was also able to muscle its way up to ninth from 12th.
Rounding out the top ten was the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, down three places, but the real losers were Dead Island (Game of the Year Edition), which plummeted from fourth to 11th, and Spec Ops: The Line, which tumbled six places to 15th.
As well as losing its record to Lego Batman, Fifa 12 dropped to 12th - leaving EA without a single title inside the top ten for the first time in many months.
On positive for EA was the 11 place improvement for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 thanks possibly to interest in the Open, which was won by Ernie Els over the weekend.
