Cooking Mama 2 fails to beat GTA IV to first position

Wednesday, 07 May 2008 08:39
Grand Theft Auto IV comfortably secured first place this week
In news sure to rock the games industry to its very core, Cooking Mama 2 was pipped to first place in the charts this week by some unknown title called Grand Theft Auto IV.

Rockstar's game, which has received only a minimum of hype in the media, debuted at number one this week, knocking Wii Fit off its exercise mat and down into second.

The other major new release this week was Iron Man: The Official Videogame. It might have done better, had it not been released at the same time as GTA IV. Still, a respectable eighth position is decent, considering.

Mario Kart Wii dropped two places, below long-time charter Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, which held grimly to third place, beyond all expectations.

EA's UEFA Euro 2008 and Sega's Superstars Tennis were the two main casualties this week, falling five and seven places respectively. The Simpsons Game continued to bounce in and out of the charts, dropping to 22nd this time out, followed by Condemned 2, which moved down to 24th from 13th.

Halo 3 moved up three positions to 14th, Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga clawed its way into 19th and, bringing up the rear, Need for Speed: ProStreet returned in 20th.
