EA announces release date for Spore
Electronic Arts and Maxis have revealed Spore - the latest game from the developer of the Sims, Will Wright – will be released later this year.

The hotly anticipated title will made available for PC, Mac, mobile and Nintendo DS globally from September 7th 2008 – with a European release pencilled in for September 5th.

"The wait is almost over," revealed Mr Wright, now chief designer for Maxis.

"We're in our final stages of testing and polish with Spore, and the team at Maxis can't wait to see the cosmos of content created by the community later this year."

The game will allow a player to control the evolution of a species from its beginnings as a single-celled organism, through development as a sapient and social land-walking creature, to levels of interstellar exploration.

And in an interview with Eurogamer.net, Maxis revealed Europe would be the focus for the game.

"Getting the launch right, getting the game working right here, getting those online features working in Europe. Europe is the priority for Spore," said Maxis's Patrick Buechner.
