Take on the best in the world in NBA Ballers
April drags on with another mixed bag of releases, with the biggest names being NBA Ballers: Chosen One (PS3, 360), Turok (PC), Battle of the Bands (Wii) and Requiem: Bloodymare (PC).
NBA Ballers has been compared to the NBA Jam series, mixing streetball with the more flamboyant (and downright ludicrous) moves of that particular franchise. Commentary is provided by fictional NBA analyst Bob Benson (voiced by Terry Abler) and MC Supernatural.
Matches are one-on-one or two-on-two, two minutes in length and the best of three rounds. Each round is a first to 11 contest, with a two point lead needed for victory.
A special "finishing" move can be activated once the House Metre is filled up, leading to a hoop-destroying game finisher.
This latest entry into the series features new competitive combo and super-move systems, with more than 65 NBA superstars included in Chosen One.
Turok (PC) is the latest instalment in the first-person shooter franchise. Released already on PS3 and Xbox 360, it has received a wide range of reviews.
Play Magazine awarded it a generous nine out of ten, while Zero Punctuation criticised it as a prime example of a bad console FPS, commenting on the poor control, non-existent story and unnecessary gameplay changes.
For those interested in checking this game out, gamezine advises you to check out a demo before purchasing.
Battle of the Bands (Wii) features 30 licensed songs, with five cover versions done in different styles. Notes will roll up from the bottoms of the screen and players need to move the remote in sync.
Some of the artists included are Cypress Hill, Soundgarden, Def Leppard, the Commodores, Texas Tornados, Keane and Korn.
Finally, Requiem: Bloodymare is an MMORPG from Gravity, aimed at mature audiences. Players will enter a dark world of bloodshed and devastation (no, it isn't set in Slough), banding together with allies to survive against the stronger, bloodthirsty creatures that haunt the night.
