LittleBigPlanet: 1.3 million sold, 300k levels created [UPDATE]

Thursday, 08 Jan 2009 17:46
Sackboy
LittleBigPlanet has sold 1.3 million copies worldwide, with over 300,000 levels created.

Sony's CES press conference is underway and we can just give you a little bit of an insight into the worldwide sales of Sackboy's beloved home.

According to Kaz Hirai, the game has sold 1.3 million copies worldwide, which isn't too shabby for a new IP. This figure aligns with our report that the game has sold over 200,000 copies in the UK alone.

Hirai also reveals that over 300,000 LittleBigPlanet levels have been created, which represents a total playing time of over two years. Now that's a staggering stat.

[UPDATE] - It has been pointed out that the 1.3 million number is in fact in reference to the amount of unique gamers playing LittleBigPlanet online. Unless every LittleBigPlanet owner has an online account, then we can presume that the game has sold over 1.3 million.

  • "More than 1.3 million "unique users" have played "LittleBigPlanet." Note that this is not the same as Sony saying it has sold 1.3 million units of the game. There are more than 300,000 user-created levels already. It would take two straight years, non-stop, to play them all.

LBP has sold over 1.8 million.
