Satoru Iwata
President and CEO of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, has claimed that the Nintendo Wii will be boosted by new titles to be released later this year.
In a
corporate Nintendo interview Satoru Iwata has commented on the state of Nintendo Wii software in early 2009. Following a statement that he can't comment on third party games for the system, he claims that there are several first-party Nintendo titles on the way starting this summer:
"The reason why I said today that April, May and June sales of Wii will not reach last year's results but that the situation will change from summer this year was because the company has been preparing for several titles to be launched toward the end of this year that can drive the market," Iwata said.
One of these titles is of course
Wii Sports Resort, which will launch with the Wii MotionPlus accessory. Iwata is also hopeful that third party titles will boost the line-up, but he can't comment on whether these games will be hits or not:
"We cannot unreasonably increase the expected shipment numbers by relying on software which may or may not be a great hit in the end, so these unknown software have not been taken into my consideration. However, there are possibilities that such titles can emerge, so we are hopeful."
As soon as we learn more about Nintendo's software line-up, which we expect to be announced at next month's E3 Expo, we'll bring the news straight to you.
