Salute
2009 is here and so it's time to wave goodbye to the best games of 2008 by announcing our Game of the Year as voted by Gamezine readers.
2008 was a bumper year bursting with classic video games. There were so many great titles that we were unable to include a lot of them in our top games. Call of Duty: World at War, Prince of Persia, Braid, Left 4 Dead, Valkyria Chronicles, Fable 2, and No More Heroes are all honourable mentions.
The following games were either first or second in Gamezine's platform specific awards, and were thus included in reader voting for the Gamezine 2008 Game of the Year;
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the PatriotsFallout 3LittleBigPlanetGrand Theft Auto IVGears of War 2Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3Mario Kart WiiSuper Smash Bros. BrawlProfessor Layton and the Curious VillageThe World Ends With You God of War: Chains of OlympusCrisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
So which game did you vote as the best game of the year?
The title image might have given you the clue:
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is your winner, receiving 35% of the votes!
After failing to win the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 awards, Fallout 3 made a surprise second place appearance. Bethesda's game is your runner-up with 22% of the votes.
Not far behind is LittleBigPlanet, Grand Theft Auto IV and Gears of War 2, all highly rated games that were just pipped to the post.
Thanks for voting folks and hopefully 2009 will be just as successful!
