Real-life Wolverine renamed Logan for a video game

Friday, 01 May 2009 11:30
Logan the Wolverine
A poor little real-life Wolverine has immediately become bad-ass by having its name changed to Logan in celebration of the launch of X-Men Origins: Wolverine the video game.

Ahhh, you didn't think there were such a thing as a real wolverine did you. Well, you're wrong! Just like Tasmanian Devils, wolverines exist and they don't look nearly as exciting as our imaginations might make us believe.

Still, it's a cute and angry little thing, much like Logan in X-Men, and the above lead male Wolverine from Edinburgh Zoo has been renamed Logan all in the name of publicity.

To celebrate the launch of X-Men Origins: Wolverine the video game, and of course the film, Activision Blizzard has sponsored the Wolverine enclosure at Edinburgh Zoo for one year. The Scottish zoo has the only Wolverines in the UK.

"It's fantastic that X-Men Origins: Wolverine is sponsoring our very own wolverines here at Edinburgh Zoo. As a charity we rely on our fund-raising to further our work and sponsorship is an excellent way for us raise essential funds, not just for the day to day care of our animals, but for our conservation projects across the globe," Cristina Pouso, Corporate Development Manager at Edinburgh Zoo.

"What better way is there to pay homage to the mighty Wolverine by making sure his real life cousins are cared for during the next year? With wolverines an endangered species, we see Wolverine having a major role in helping people become more aware of these wonderful creatures and ensuring their survival for many years to come," Aruna Sinha, Senior Brand Manager, Activision.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine the video game releases for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, PC and PSP on this very day. A demo is now available for download from Xbox Live and the PlayStation Store. The film was released on April 29th.
