Trophy/achievement comparing 7 times faster on 360

Ever wondered how fast each console's operating systems ran? Wonder no more.

Legendary NeoGAF forum poster TTP has been busy compiling information on the speed that both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 perform certain tasks. The results were generally similar for each of the operating systems, but there were some surprising differences.

First off, TTP connected both systems (an 80GB PS3 and an Xbox 360 Elite) using the same ISP and hardware, with each connected to his HDTV with an HDMI cable. For any in-game tests, Fight Night Round 4's training gameplay was used.

Everything from starting up and signing in, to loading up the Xbox Marketplace and PlayStation Store, took generally the same amount of time on both consoles.

There tends to be some difference in the PS3's in-game load times (such as showing up a friend's profile), whereas the Xbox 360 predominantly takes the same amount of time to perform tasks both in and out of game.

The biggest difference occurs in the comparing of trophies or achievements. The times were taken from selecting "compare games/trophies" to the moment every piece of data (gamer points) shows up. The PlayStation 3 takes 27 seconds (a massive 37 seconds in-game) with the Xbox 360 taking 4 seconds both in and out of game.

Sony really needs to get their game on with the PS3's new trophy system, though it's true that all the Xbox 360 has to do is download numbers, whereas the PS3 must download images for each and every trophy.

There are some areas where the PS3 is slightly faster, such as creating a message - it takes 0.5 seconds to bring up the virtual keyboard on the PS3 and 2 seconds on the Xbox 360; and quitting the dashboard/XMB is one second faster on the PS3.

Not too much to shout about, but interesting nonetheless.

Thanks to TTP of NeoGAF
