Conservative MP Ed Vaizey has argued that the video games industry could gain support from the Lottery.
The Conservative Party's shadow culture minister, Ed Vaizey, has spoken about setting up a
Video Games Council to communicate with the government before, but now he's explained what advantages it might hold.
In an interview with
BruceOnGames, Vaizey adds that Lottery funding through a Games Council might be possible in the UK:
"I'd like to explore whether the Film Council's remit could be extended to video games. And the Film Council doles out money to independent movies via the Lottery, so there is no reason in principle why Lottery money could not support some aspects of games development," Vaizey commented.
In addition to fighting for tax breaks for the games industry, Vaizey believes that it's about time the government takes the industry seriously:
"We think video games have not been taken seriously by this Government. They are a huge industry for us, we are world-beaters, and we should be looking at imaginative policies to support the industry as much as possible."
