Manhunt 2 to be released in the UK at last
After the BBFC's decision to ban controversial 'murder simulator' Manhunt 2 from being released in the UK was overturned by the Video Appeals Committee, developers Rockstar promised not to market the game in an irresponsible manner.
The BBFC announced it had no alternative but to begrudgingly award the title an 18 certificate. A spokesman for Rockstar made it clear how happy they were with the decision.
"We are pleased that the VAC has reaffirmed its decision recognising that Manhunt 2 is well within the bounds established by other 18+ rated entertainment. Rockstar Games is committed to making great interactive entertainment, while also marketing our products responsibly and supporting an effective rating system."
What Rockstar deems 'responsible' remains to be seen, although advocacy groups are still likely to protest its release. Whether the game even needs an ad campaign now is a good question, considering the amount of publicity the whole release saga has already received.
