Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
Tecmo unveils Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 for the PlayStation 3 and touts it as the ultimate Ninja Gaiden, further announcing new exclusive features.
Tecmo's
secret game is indeed Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, in development for the PlayStation 3 by Team Ninja, under Yosuke Hayashi - the studio's new leader following Itagaki-sans departure.
Hayashi-san was available at the game's debut event in San Francisco's Metreon Centre and explained that when the game released this autumn it would be "the total package, the ultimate package, the one you will always remember as the one that ended up incorporating everything that you have seen and experienced throughout the Ninja Gaiden franchise."
The game is to include (or the first time) online two-player co-operative play, new characters Ayane and Momiji, in addition to new weapons and character exclusive moves.
"I am confident that a lot of our fans have been waiting to play Ninja Gaiden, any Ninja Gaiden, not just as an offline single player experience but with another partner online," Hayashi-san said.
Sadly, none of these features will be made available for the Xbox 360, though following their previous exclusivity lies, we wouldn't be surprised if Tecmo changed their mind.
Hayashi-san uncharacteristically responded to questions concerning the ever critical and previous head ninja Itagaki-san (a staunch Xbox supporter and
didn't think the original Sigma port was any good.)
"There's nothing I'd put against the Sigma series. The DNA still exists as Team Ninja, even though maybe the face has changed, the leader has changed, and whoever was the so-called creator of the series may have left, the team still exists. So the essence, the DNA is still there," Hayashi-san said.
Hayashi's also confident he can fill Itagaki's shoes, saying he'll prove it with the game.
A PlayStation Network demo of Sigma 2 will possibly be made available, with exclusive downloadable content to follow. You can watch the game's reveal trailer below, or visit its
