Forza 3: No weather, night racing, or rally

Thursday, 09 Jul 2009 10:36
Forza 3
Forza 3 might not include the above features, but it will include a hell of a lot more.

Turn 10 announced Forza 3 at Microsoft's E3 press conference with a short five second trailer, but then followed with incredibly impressive gameplay footage.

It's the first in the series to feature a cockpit view, and will include over 400 cars, many of which have yet to be announced.

There's been a few rumours that the game will also introduce a weather system, night racing and even off-road rally racing like Gran Turismo 5's inclusion of World Rally Championship.

However, Turn 10 community manager Che Chou has come out to refute those claims (at least for now) on the official Forza MotorSport 3 forums: "No weather, night racing, or rally in the game."

That said, the game will likely include most of your favourite cars, with Chou adding:

"Any car is up for grabs. Just because we haven't announced/shown it doesn't mean it won't make it into the game. We're just trickling out info."

The amount of effort put into all aspects of the game, from physics to graphics, can be seen in the following developer diary when Turn 10 went to visit the Le Mans race track in France.

Forza MotorSport 3 will release this October exclusively for the Xbox 360 and you can watch further gameplay footage after the following link.

[UPDATE] - New Forza 3 information imminent.

  • "how can you have le mans without night racing?"

  • "LoL, and this is somehow better than Gran Turismo, how?? As each day passes, and more information is known about Forza, I care less and less."

  • "Typical M$ fud will ensure gamers are kept in the dark about the true lack of features in this utter GT5 wannabe title. Could be a good game but they cannot honesty compare it to GT5, ever."

  • "B.S. I asked one of the forza team members about whether or not the game will have weather effects and all he said was "we have nothing to announce at this time" but he had a smile on his face the whole time. So hopefully it will still happen."

  • "No surprises here. Unlike Turn10, Polyphony digital takes their time to add as much content and polish to their games. It's why GT5 5 will have 800+ cars, WRC, Nascar, Drifting, Weather, Night racing, etc..."

  • "So now the truth comes out. We were told that this game would blow all racing games out of the water, but from what I'm reading this is far from the truth. At E3 Microsoft was looking down on GT5 and NFS stating that they were the racers of the past and that they were bringing the racing fans the racer that we really wanted...bla bla bla. What a load of S**T. I'll stick with GT% at least what they say is what you get."

  • "It's obvious that these features will most likely be added after the game is released. They probably don't have everything perfected for those features yet. GT5 has been in the worked for almost 4 years now and the game still won't be as good as Forza 3. GT5 won't have the customization that F3 has and you won't be able to share cars with others. I'll be surprised if GT5 even has damage. GT5: Prologue wasn't anything special. Cars looked great, but the environment was terrible. You guys keep waiting for GT5. I'll be playing Forza 4 by the time that game gets released. "

  • "This was bound to turn into a fanboys' pissing match, but it shouldn't. I have no doubt that Forza will be impressive. But make no mistake, GT5 will be the more impressive (read: complete) racing experience (and that does include varying weather). Having said that, both can co-exist quite nicely. As, like many others, I own both a 360 and a PS3. I'm guessing that Live will offer a better on-line experience, while GT5 will offer more of everything else. The Live experience won't be beat by GT5. "

  • "Damn, I was looking forward to something that would actually make the races interesting after 5 minutes... I'd rather have GT5 than Forza 3, and this is coming from a 360 owner... When I picked up Forza 2 recently, I thought it was just a GT clone, but it lacks variety to match GT."

    Lanf (UK) Posted: 10/07/2009 10:35:47

  • "Well it would be nice if weather, night racing, and rallying was there, but I would probably never used the first two and I didn't miss the last item on Forza 2. I guess we will see."

  • "You guys will find anything to complain about a certain game. No one likes complaining fanboys."
