GT5 could slip to 2010

Tuesday, 22 Jul 2008 16:26
Wherefore art thou, Gran Turismo 5?
Much wailing and gnashing of teeth is going on in the Gran Turismo fanboy community at the moment, Gamezine understands.

The reason? Well, Kazunori Yamauchi has come out and taken a baseball bat to the hopes and dreams of the franchise's fans, saying that the full version of Gran Turismo 5 won't be arriving any time soon.

In fact, it may not even be coming out next year, with a 2010 release date tentatively mooted. Apparently, Sony and Polyphony Digital are planning to prioritise updates for Gran Turismo 5: Prologue instead.

"There's no plans in the works for GT5 yet - that might be 2009, or it might be 2010... But we're totally focused on getting the updates through for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, and that's all we're focused on," Yamauchi said.

So, GT5 isn't even a distant blip on the gaming radar yet. The fact the priority is to release updates for an alleged stopgap game quite simply boggles the mind.
