Fatal Fury: Battle Archives Volume 1 announced for PS2

Tuesday, 13 May 2008 09:28
Retro beat-'em-up action for PS2 fans coming in April
SNK Playmore and Ignition Entertainment have announced the European release date for Fatal Fury: Battle Archives Volume 1. The compilation will be released on the PlayStation 2 in August, 2008.

The original Fatal Fury game was unleashed upon an unsuspecting world way back in 1991, chronicling the adventures of Joe Higashi and the brothers Bogard, focusing on their struggle with Southtown's criminal kingpin, Geese Howard.

Those of us old and wizened enough to remember back this far might chuckle at the platform which hosted the original Fatal Fury game. The NeoGeo was renowned for its ludicrously expensive games, some breaking the £100 pound barrier.

Nevertheless, Fatal Fury is fondly remembered by consolers, with many sequels spawning from the original's success. Indeed, the King of Fighters series was born from these humble beginnings.

Back in the present then, the first volume of the Fatal Fury collection will consist of the original game, Fatal Fury 2, Fatal Fury Special and Fatal Fury 3: Road to the Final Victory.

"The Fatal Fury franchise contains a real piece of SNK’s history.’ says Peter Rollinson, product manager at Ignition Entertainment. ‘It was these games that helped mould the successful gaming track record that SNK enjoys."
