The Joker has been confirmed as a playable character in the upcoming Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe game, as has Batman (which we knew already).

Midway has confirmed a number of new characters for the game at the San Diego 'Comic Con', held over the weekend.

According to IGN, these will include Shazam (or, more accurately, Captain Marvel), Liu Kang, the Joker, Jax, Kitana and the Green Lantern.

Other than the character announcements, a close combat feature will allow for players to trigger special combo moves unavailable in non-zoomed-in play.

Freefall mode was also demonstrated, where characters knocked off the edge of an arena can continue grappling and beating each other in mid-air, before hitting the ground.

Those wondering why Superman, who is in the game, will not be invulnerable (as not every adversary could be feasibly be made of kryptonite) is that he is also vulnerable to 'magic'.
