Carmack says Doom 4 will be out on PC

Sunday, 10 Aug 2008 18:21
John Carmack sees the PC, at the moment, as less important than consoles in the current gaming climate.
John Carmack, one of the legendary brains behind the Doom and Quake series at id Software, has told Tom's Hardware that the PC is the "junior partner in the cross-platform strategy".

Sadly for PC users, even id Software, synonymous with the PC gaming scene, is moving (at least for now) towards a cross-platform development strategy.

Tom's Hardware has revealed in an interview that Carmack sees the PC as a "market worth supporting", but that his company won't be solely concentrating on it.

Of course, this isn't to say that the current wave of consoles won't start showing their age far more in the near future, and the wheel of fortune swing back to the PC, but, at the present time, id Software are looking to put Rage (as we already know) and the upcoming Doom project onto consoles as well.

Carmack did lament the current situation somewhat: "It would just be wrong (not to release the next Doom on the PC)," he told Tom's Hardware.

"Even if it was a marginal business case, we would still do it because it’s the right thing to do."
