Killzone 2 Preview Build
The 4th December is officially Killzone 2 day and so today Gamezine will bring you a round up of all the latest footage, hands-on previews and screenshots.
We warned you about the
Killzone 2 blow-out last week, and gave you a
hands-on preview to whet your appetite. As expected it's already excited a myriad of gaming websites and forums.
We're not going to host all the videos here, so instead we'll give you a Gametrailers taster and forward you to the rest of web's assets. There's a lot to go through, so get your clicking finger ready.
Gamersyde's 12 Single-player Videos - Neogaf's infamous TTP provides a smattering of Killzone 2 videos, featuring expertly played gameplay that shows off new locations. The Sniper video is a stand-out.
91 Stunning Killzone 2 Screenshots - Playscope.com got screen capture happy, scouting footage for the best shots of the game. You can find 91 of them there, including never before seen characters and environments.
IGN Updated Hands-on - An excellent updated preview of Killzone 2, which features new information on the game, going into depth on the plot, new environments and the minutia of the graphics engine:
"There's much more to the Killzone 2 engine than deferred rendering and screen passes; in fact, Arjan mentioned that every composite that is rendered within the game is placed solely upon the SPUs to lock in the framerate at a solid 30 FPS. During small battles, one or two SPUs will pick up a majority of the action, but during heavy firefights with large explosions and numerous characters onscreen, all six SPUs will pick up the load and balance everything accurately.
Surprisingly, even within the heaviest fire-fight onscreen, Arjan pointed out that the largest load on each one of the SPUs didn't exceed 60%, which ensured that the framerate remained consistent throughout the game. On top of this, Arjan pointed out everything from light bloom and internal lens reflection effects to true geometric particles that fly from walls and collide with the ground realistically based on the direction of an explosion."
IGN Top 5 Quick Fixes - After presenting their hands-on, IGN go over a few issues with their preview code that they think could be improved.
Gamereactor Killzone 2 Preview and PS3Bloggen Killzone 2 Test - Two translated hands-on previews; "Killzone 2 is exactly what the action genre needs," "War has never looked this good."
Hands-on with Killzone 2's Single-Player Campaign - Joystiq's Andrew Yoon gives his impressions:
"Let me be as clear as I can. Killzone 2 is a fantastic game, easily deserving the hype its earned so far. Considering the expectations surrounding Killzone 2, that means quite a lot. From what I've played so far, Killzone 2 delivers on all fronts. The gameplay is incredibly visceral and nuanced; the graphics are unparalleled."
Eurogamer's Hands-on -
"The overall feeling of what we've played so far is a carefully constructed solidity: Killzone 2's world may not constantly surprise you, but it's remarkably tangible, from the heavy guns, to the thick, alien wind roaring in your face, and the drunken staggers of dying enemies."
Eurogamer Portugal give their impressions.
Jeuxvideo.fr provide a selection of new single-player videos.
