Duke Nukem coming to DS, PSP

Apogee Software has announced its return to the games industry with the news the original Duke Nukem games will be coming to the Nintendo DS and Sony's PSP.

The 'new' games will be dubbed the Duke Nukem Trilogy, comprising the three episodes present in the original game released way back when, with three missions included that have never been seen before.

"It's funny how what's old is new again in this industry," commented Apogee co-founder, Scott Miller.

"Many of the things Apogee pioneered are back in style, so it only makes sense to bring back Apogee and its properties with a visionary team that will once again create innovation for gamers around the world."

Miller is, of course, talking about the shareware game system that Apogee were at the forefront of in the 1980s/early 1990s. 'Demos' or the games' first episodes were distributed via bulletin boards and these then advertised more titles in the series.

Perhaps the most famous example of a shareware game was the original Doom, with the first, classic episode giving gamers a taste of the ground-breaking FPS action way back in the early 1990s.
