Europe 'less mature' than other gaming markets

Dr Kawashima's Brain Training is the most purchased game in Europe, recent figures indicate
Europe is lagging behind other regions in the growing global computer games market, industry analyst company Forbes has suggested.

According to research from the International Development Group, Forbes believes the European games market generated around £9 billion in 2007, compared to the US equivalent, which managed approximately £9.5 billion.

However, considering the population of Europe is twice that of the States, it can be seen where Forbes believes Europe is lagging behind.

Microsoft has called Europe the major "battleground" for the console war, with Sony's PlayStation 3 maintaining its momentum due in part to strong brand loyalty for games like SingStar on the continent.

Indeed, Nintendo as well decided to launch Wii Fit in Europe before the States.

As for the top-selling games in Europe, they run as follows:

  • Dr Kawashimas' Brain Training (Nintendo)
  • Fifa 2008 (EA Sports)
  • Wii Play (Nintendo)
  • Pro Evo Soccer 2008 (Konami)
  • New Super Mario Bros (Nintendo)
  • Need for Speed Pro Street (EA)
  • Assassin's Creed (UbiSoft)
  • Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Activision)
  • Big Brain Academy (Nintendo)
  • The Simpson's Game (EA)
