Guitar Hero 4 to have drums and custom music, allegedly

Rumours of drums, bass guitars and vocals in Guitar Hero 4 are flying about the internet
A post on the NeoGAF forums has sparked widespread speculation and rumour regarding the next iteration of Guitar Hero.

According to SolidSnakex, an upcoming Game Informer preview will reveal that Guitar Hero IV will feature drums, a bass guitar, microphone support and the ability to create and share custom songs.

The game is pencilled in for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and PS2, though some features on the less powerful platforms will be less "robust" than on others.

SolidSnakex's post has indicated a new guitar peripheral will introduce a "new input mechanic", involving "see-through notes". There are no specific details about the extra instruments.

Of most interest to many players will be the custom music feature. Apparently, users will be allowed to create up to five songs, with everything except vocals. These can then be uploaded to a Guitar Hero song-sharing service.

All the songs in Guitar Hero IV will be original, master recordings - no more "as made famous by" tracks here - with Van Halen, the Eagles, Linkin Park and Sublime all being mentioned. Neversoft and Activision, allegedly, were unwilling to discuss other specific bands, in case the developers of Rock Band were to steal their ideas.

This is all wild speculation, though there have been indications in the past (Activision's Bobby Kotick, for example, made comments about "other instruments" and "vocals") that the rumours may be substantiated in the future. Watch this space.
