Blizzard confirms new MMO is new IP

Thursday, 14 May 2009 14:36
Blizzard Entertainment
Blizzard's community manager has confirmed that Blizzard is working on a new MMO that's not based on the company's existing franchises.

Blizzard Entertainment's unannounced MMO was said not to be based on World of Warcraft, Starcraft or Diablo late last year, but Blizzard's community manager Zerhym has now confirmed the news on the World of Warcraft forums:

"We've already stated it'll be a brand new franchise, which means the lore, art, and game play are being developed entirely from scratch."

The MMO is still in early stages, with Zerhym describing it as a "shell of a game thus far."

"It's an overwhelming process, but a process through which we excel," added Zerhym. "Our track record supports this."

It's currently unknown if Blizzard will be bringing the new IP away from PCs to consoles, such as the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but as soon as we know more we'll let you know.
