Microsoft Game Studios and Lionhead Studios have announced the release date for Fable II, the eagerly anticipated sequel to the ambitious-but-flawed Xbox title.

The game will be reporting for duty in the US on October 21st, with the UK version coming in a little bit later on the 24th.

Fable II, according to the press blurb, offers "an infinite amount of choice in an open world environment."

As with most Peter Molyneux-helmed games, Fable II is promising a great deal of innovation and 'brand new' features.

For example, a new combat system has been developed to be "approachable and accessible to both casual and hardcore gamers."

There'll also be the much-vaunted 'social' aspect, with player characters able to have a family and various things along those lines.

For those of you who can't wait for your taste of Fable goodness, you might want to check out the Fable II Pub Games on Xbox Live Arcade.

Available on August 13th, these can be obtained for free when pre-ordering Fable II, or as a standalone for 800 Microsoft Points.

The mini-games include 'Fortune's Tower,' 'Keystone' and 'Spinnerbox', offering players the chance to earn money that can be used in the main Fable II game.

There is also a Limited Collector's Edition available for the full games, which features a bonus 'making of' DVD, extra in-game content (which requires a Live account), five printed Fate cards and a collectible Hobbe figure with 'accessories'.
