New Gothic 4 screenshots unveiled
Monday, 12 May 2008 10:41
The first screens of Gothic 4 show the familiar city shield
Eurogamer.net has published a set of Gothic 4 screenshots, which show off the new graphics engine and, apparently, how it deals with idyllic, rustic scenes.
Gothic 4 will be set ten years after the third game left off, taking place on a collection of southern islands (Morrowind-style?). Each one has a different climate zone and environment, allowing the developers to add a great deal of diversity to the game's look and feel.
The game will feature a full day-night cycle, plus the ability to cast a spell which changes the time of day (for example, one might need to sneak past some guards, which would be ideal at night).
Creatures and monsters will have a fresh look, although trolls will be the same as Gothic III. Players will have the ability to buy or obtain mounts to ride on.
The graphics, impressive enough at times in the third game, will be fully DirectX 10 compatible, with advanced shader technology. The developers have illustrated the power of their new engine by saying that, if you were to stand under a tree, light would be realistically dimmed and the sun would be visible through partially transparent leaves.
Gothic 4: Arcania will be released on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, although a release date is a long way off at the time of writing.
