WoW: Lich King due this year

Wrath of the Lich King is still due out this year, say Vivendi
Vivendi has revealed the second World of Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, is still "scheduled to be released in the second half of 2008".

When contacted for comment, after this statement appeared in Vivendi's latest round of financial results, a Blizzard spokesperson made it clear there was still no official release date for Lich King.

There was also no official confirmation, or denial, of Vivendi's statement, incidentally.

Journalists were invited to give the expansion a quick play and the general consensus is that Lich King is in better condition than The Burning Crusade (WoW's first expansion) was at the same time in its development cycle.

As Blizzard has a stringent "ready when it's ready" philosophy, the title could well slip again. Burning Crusade launched later than expected, in January 2007, just missing the Christmas purchasing bonanza.

In other Vivendi news the company revealed a 24 per cent slump in first-quarter earnings for 2008, blaming unfavourable comparisons with the Burning Crusade launch last year.
