DOOM
So what was it like at iD Software before DOOM? You can find out in the following video from 1993.
John Romero, best known as the co-founder of iD Software and lead designer on Wolfenstein 3D, DOOM and Quake, has posted a retro video of the team during the development of DOOM - the game that birthed the 3D FPS genre.
The footage was recorded by Dan Linton, owner of the successful BBS (bulletin board system) called Software Creations, when he visited iD Software in November 1993.
Shown are several of id's employees: Jay Wilbur, Shawn Green, John Romero, Dave Taylor, Sandy Petersen, Adrian Carmack, and Bobby Prince who was visiting to finish the music and sound effects for DOOM.
Before watching 21 minutes of John Romero playing DOOM (which is using sound effects from the SNES game Wolf 3D, since Bobby Prince had yet to put his effects in) you'll see the team playing Aladdin on the Genesis - the game had only just released to put the footage into some perspective.
You can also watch Romero playing an early deathmatch (a term Romero is credited with having created) against Shawn Green. iD Software is now working on
RAGE for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
