Activision promises Tony Hawk revamp

Activision needs to give the Tony Hawk franchise a lift after the disappointing Proving Ground
Activision has promised to revamp the Tony Hawk franchise "from the ground up", in order to compete with genre newcomer Skate.

Activision chief executive Mike Griffith said there were two separate skating projects currently under construction.

The first is to be a Nintendo DS exclusive and will use new technology "not yet seen" on the handheld device. No exact date for release has been given, but chances are it will see the light of day this year.

The second game will be for the major consoles, scheduled for sometime after April 2009. Mr Griffith said the game would be given an extended development period, "to deliver the kind of breakthrough that the franchise needs."

"For competitive reasons we're not going to talk about it today, but we're very bullish on the kind of innovation this will bring. This won't be your father's Tony Hawk," Mr Griffith added.

The Tony Hawk franchise has hit the skids a little in recent times, so if Activision are able to make good on their promises, skate fans will be more than pleased.
