Assassin's Creed 3 could cast female assassin in WWII

Ubisoft is already talking about the setting for Assassin's Creed III, with World War II potentially on the cards.

As if we needed another World War II game.

In an interview with Xbox World 360 magazine, the producer on Assassin's Creed II has revealed that the developer is currently planning the setting for the game's sequel.

A female assassin during the war torn 1940s of Britain and France is a direction they might go. However, this sounds very much like Velvet Assassin to us.

"We've had discussions on that very topic," producer Sébastien Puel replied when asked about the possibility of a female assassin. "It could be really interesting but we'd need to find the right time period and place for that.

"Where would that make sense? We don't want to just decide we want to change and have a female hero as the first inspiration is always the time period, but if you're talking about, say, World War II the economies in England and France were run by women because the men were off fighting.

"So maybe in this context you were a woman in England during WWII. Why not? Nothing prevents us from doing it," he said.

Of course, it looks like Peul was pushed into that WWII relation, so don't fret just yet.

Although Assassin's Creed was one of the best selling new IPs in 2007, Ubisoft is so besotted with the franchise that they can see themselves taking it way beyond its planned trio of games.

"What's so great about Assassin's Creed is that we can just expand and expand," creative director Patrice Fortier said.

"I'm often asked if we're doing a third game after ACII...I mean, we could do 35 of these."

Assassin's Creed 2 will be out for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 17th, but will be delayed for the PC until 2010.
