Activision: Modern Warfare 2 will be best selling video game

Modern Warfare 2
Activision plans to break records with Modern Warfare 2 by making it the best selling video game of all time.

Activision's brand manager Simon Wells has told MCV that they are planning to make Modern Warfare 2's November release the biggest in video game history:

"We want to propel this year's title to be the biggest selling video game of all time. That may raise some eyebrows, but step back and look at the franchise's trajectory through preceding launches, and this objective starts to look viable."

The franchise has gone from strength to strength at retail, especially in the UK where it topped the charts week after week.

"We firmly believe we have the potential to be the No.1 entertainment property of the year. The reality for a franchise as large as Call of Duty is that we are competing directly with entertainment propositions outside of the video game space," said Wells who believes that the game can beat out X Factor and even Harry Potter. Whether it can beat Wii Play, Wii Sports, or Wii Fit is another matter.
