Kaz: Sony's pressure to release GT5 difficult to bear

Polyphony Digital desperately feels the pressure from Sony to release Gran Turismo 5.

Gran Turismo 5 has been in development for five years now, and although Polyphony Digital has released GT:HD, GT5 Prologue and GT PSP in that time, it's still been a hell of a wait for what many expect to be the definitive racing game of this generation.

We had expected the game to release at the end of 2009, since all the signs were pointing to that release period. However, at the Tokyo Games Show, Sony announced that the game would be getting a March 2010 release in Japan, and a slightly later release in the US and Europe.

In an interview with Meristation, the studio's head Kazunori Yamauchi reveals that the pressure from Sony to release the game has at times been unbearable. In response to whether Sony pressured the studio on the game, Yamauchi-san replied:

"Not in terms of content, but the pressure really, if we can call it that, of the delivery dates are sometimes difficult to bear."

The relationship doesn't look like it's the closest, with Yamauchi-san's real family being at Polyphony:

"The most important people in my life and close work are of course employees Polyphony. We are like a family.

"On the other hand, some people at Sony helped me and help them grow professionally. And those people I work and my devotion I'm happy to help all I can," he added.

Gran Turismo 5 is set for a March 2010 release in Japan, and will be coming to the US and Europe a little later.
