Playable Killzone ad hints at Killzone 3 tech

Killzone 2 advertisement
The playable version of the US Killzone 2 commercial gives us a glimpse behind the technology of Guerilla Games' next game.

A playable version of the US Killzone 2 advertisement went live on the PlayStation Store yesterday (at least in the States), which allows you to spin around the camera, slow down the action, and also turn effects on and off. All of which gives you an insight into the engine Guerrilla Games created for the PlayStation 3.

You'll also be able to hear audio commentaries from a number of sources at Guerrilla Games, including Killzone 2's art director and technical director.

Although Behind the Bullet runs in real-time on the PlayStation 3, it does feature effects that can't be found in the retail game itself. This is due to there being more resources available for the trailer (no AI, predefined events) and also to the fact that Guerrilla created the trailer after they had finished work on Killzone 2.

If you do get round to listening to the commentary you'll be able to hear that the team made some progress with higher resolution textures (or high frequency detail mapping) on characters that can simulate more realistic cloth - something the studio didn't have time to put into the game.

Moreover, the trailer features a realistic (if faked) puddle reflection, something they say they'd like to include in their next game. So if you do play Behind the Bullet, you'll be getting a glimpse at what Killzone 3 might look like.
