Remedy: Alan Wake is only the first season

Tuesday, 07 Jul 2009 17:20
Alan Wake
It looks like we'll be getting more from Alan Wake's psychological thriller.

When Alan Wake eventually comes out for the Xbox 360 in early-2010 (the PC release is currently up in the air) it looks like it won't be the end of the psychological thriller author's adventures.

It's already known that Remedy Games is targeting an episodic-like structure for Alan Wake, but it wasn't clear that the developer was targeting further entries. However, Sam Järvi of Remedy told Swedish magazine LEVEL:

"Yeah we see Alan Wake like a DVD-box containing the first season of a bigger story.

"It is like a TV-series that became a game. The story is cut into episodes that are all ending with a cliffhanger."

Now we wouldn't want to read too much into what's said, but describing Alan Wake as the "first season of a bigger story" certainly appears to imply a sequel.

  • "It's either implying a sequel (or trilogy, possibly even a cycle), or a slew of DLC episodic adventures. Depending on what choices you made of course. People think that just b/c Alan Wake has been in development since 2005, it's going to be out of date. Quite the contrary, my friends. Remedy has learned to perfect the Graphics technology of the 2005-2009 period. Other companies just kept updating, while Remedy mastered their own. As for the 5 year development cycle, I think it's obvious that we're going to be getting alot of Alan Wake. Remedy wouldn't let 5 years of development be summed up by a single experience. They've turned Alan Wake into their next major money maker. And trust me, it will bring in the dough."

  • "I am all for episodes, seasons, sequels, what ever you want to call them... It was one of the biggest reasons why I loved Shenmue! Let's hope Alan Wake fullfills it's sequel approach!!"
