Sony Ericsson hope to stir up mobile gamers with the Zeemote controller add-on.
Sony Ericsson and Zeemote have announced a partnership to launch a console-style controller for a mobile handset for the first time in the UK.
The Sony Ericsson W705 Walkman will be available exclusively with T-Mobile and is to be bundled with the Zeemote JS1 Bluetooth Mobile Gaming Controller and pre-loaded with the Fast & Furious game.
The company hopes to compete with the gaming iPhone via an accessory that sports a highly responsive thumb-stick and four action buttons. In addition to Fast & Furious, the Zeemote will be compatible with all mobile game genres, with demos already included on the sleek Walkman phone.
"Sony Ericsson prides itself on bringing intuitive and entertaining technologies to its consumers. We are delighted to be giving them the opportunity to experience the award winning Zeemote JS1 Bluetooth Mobile Gaming Controller in combination with our W705 state-of-the-art handset," said Dave Hilton, Marketing Director Sony Ericsson UK and Ireland.
Ernie Cormier, CEO of Zeemote Inc, added: "We are pleased to partner with Sony Ericsson and T-Mobile to create the world's best mobile gaming experience for consumers in the UK through the feature rich W705 Walkman phone bundle featuring the Zeemote JS1."
T-Mobile is also offering two additional free games (Planet Riders and DEEP Submarine Odyssey) with the purchase of the Sony Ericsson W705 for a limited time only.
Although the Zeemote Controller has been described as "the gaming sensation of 2009," we're not sure if it'll stop the iPhone gaming revolution, or live up to what the president of Sony Ericson, Hideki Komiyamahas, called
the PlayStation mobile. But it's promising and hopefully the device is all it's cracked up to be when we get our hands on it.
