UK Sales Preview: RE5 top, sales split 55% to 45%

Resident Evil 5
In our UK software sales preview, we bring the predictable news that Resident Evil 5 has blasted its way to the top of the charts.

Resident Evil 5 becomes the fastest selling game in the franchise and is Capcom's biggest ever launch. The company announced that they shipped a massive four million copies worldwide.

In this week's UK All Format's Chart, the Resident Evil series has proven to be more popular than ever, and with it's first ever Xbox outing, the game sells 55% on Microsoft's Console, with 45% on the PlayStation 3.

This is a very different story to Japan's launch, but then the consoles have very different install bases in each country.

The game is also the largest All Formats number one since Call of Duty: World at War, even managing to surpass Fifa '09s Christmas week. In fact the game did so well, that it represents 27.1% of all console game revenue this week.

Moreover, amazingly, Resident Evil 5's sales are slightly more than the combined sales of the rest of the top ten. The game on the PlayStation 3 outsold the PlayStation 2 launch of Resident Evil 4 by 3.22 to 1.

Last week’s number one Empire: Total War drops all the way to eighth place, with sales down 70%. Killzone 2 drops to fifth, with a 53% drop in sales and Halo Wars manages to stay in the top ten, despite a 61% drop in sales. The PlayStation 3's SOCOM: Confrontation debuts at number 11.

Return for the full UK All Formats top twenty tomorrow.
