Wooden PlayStation 2 almost fools Sony

Friday, 06 Feb 2009 15:19
The Wooden PlayStation 2
A Sony distribution insider reveals pictures of the fake PlayStation 2 consoles that fooled the retailer but not the manufacturer.

Now this is a gem: a tipster has provided picture evidence of fake PlayStation 2's that were made to fool retailers, such as America's Best Buy and Walmart, into giving out credit for a used console. The consoles were then sent to Sony by the retailers for the money.

One of the consoles has been beautifully crafted in wood, complete with stickers. What's more absurd? That someone would go to the effort to create a fake PS2 for perhaps $100, or that the retailers accepted them in the first place?

Kudos to the creators in my opinion. Another fake uses dumbbells to make the console feel the right weight; ingenious.
