Madden NFL 2009 coming out this week

Friday, August 08, 2008 12:00 AM

We are coming into 'flavour country' in the gaming world in the next few weeks, with the biggest titles of the year beginning to appear on the horizon.

However, we're still in the tail end of the summer lull, so there aren't many 'big' names for you all to consider this week.

The biggest is Madden NFL 2009, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary as a franchise. Despite not coming out on the PC, Electronic Arts' gridiron game will allegedly be packing in 85 new features this time out.

The major ones are 'BackTrack' and the 'Virtual Training Centre'. The former is a new replay learning tool that allows players to dissect plays and see what went right and what failed spectacularly.

The latter is what you'd expect - an interactive tutorial mode that teaches fundamental concepts of the sport and how to actually use the myriad of controls and options available.

Next up is Bionic Commando Rearmed. For a fuller look at what this will have to offer, why not head over to our previews section, where Gabriel May has taken a gander at what fans can expect.

Elsewhere, we have the first two Brothers in Arms games (Road to Hill 30 and Earned in Blood) which are making their debuts on the Wii.

There is also the standalone 'expansion' for Silverfall, entitled Earth Awakening, a new Hellboy game from Konami and the start of a new series from Telltale, Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People - Episode 1: Homestar Ruiner.
