Sony officially unveils PS3 Slim and price cut – compared to the original PS3 in pictures

On stage during Sony’s conference at GamesCom in Cologne, Germany, Kaz Hirai finally unveiled their much rumoured PS3 Slim.

While we wait for the official press shots of the box, what we can tell you is that it will cost $299/299Euros and 29,980 yen and will include the same features and functions, with a 120GB hard drive.

The Slim is 33 percent smaller, 36 percent lighter and 34 percent less power use than the phat PS3 and will be available in the first week of September.

It’s so Slim, that it won’t be able to stand vertically by itself (like the Slim PS2) so it’ll need a stand, sold separately for $24 in the US and 2,000 yen in Japan.

Oh and all phat PS3’s will also be receiving the cut to this new $299/299Euro price…as of tomorrow! The console will be priced at £249 in the UK, AUD $499 in Australia and NZD $629 in New Zealand. Here’s Jack Tretton talking about the console:
